Welcome to VisualX University, or VxUni for short!
Topics and learning approach
Something something, mumble mumble, … the art of scientific software engineering.
Here at VisualX Uni, I would like to treat topics such as:
- Python programming, from beginner to advanced.
- Data science in the Python ecosystem.
- Machine learning in the Python ecosystem.
- Data visualization.
- Medical visualization.
- Image analysis.
- Modern C++ for the optimization of your computational pipelines.
Each of these topics will be covered with a number of lectures. Each lecture will consist of a short video lecture (I aim for around 10 minutes, but I usually miss) with accompanying digital notes and source code examples. You will be able to cherry-pick lectures as you wish, or follow topic trajectories in order to master a specific theme.
Business model
Pfah… business models. Stuff is free around here.
Eventually I might offer additional service levels for personalised project-based learning and assessment.
Who is the shadowy figure behind all of this?
The VisualX University, a project of VisualX Labs (vxlabs.com), is run by Dr Charl P. Botha (that’s me typing this, so let me switch to the relevant pronoun before this gets even more weird).
From 2006 to 2013 I was a tenured assistant professor at the Delft University of Technology in The Netherlands, where I had the privilege and the pleasure of helping bright undergraduate and postgraduate technical university students level-up to AMAZING.
I then moved back to the southern tip of Africa and started a boutique visualization, imaging and software engineering consultancy called vxlabs (well, that was also VisualX Labs to be honest). Since then I’ve built and put into production a number of (medical) imaging, data science, machine learning and (medical) visualization systems for local and international clients.
With this combination of academic / teaching and applied data science and engineering backgrounds, my goal is to help you to reach level AMAZING as well!
